Layout Planning & Dry-Fitting

Cutting & Fitting Around Obstacles
Precision is key when working around fixtures and moldings.
- Mark the stone carefully for cuts around electrical outlets, light switches, or trim.
- Make cuts slowly with your wet saw; let the diamond blade do the work without forcing it, which can crack the stone. For small intricate cuts, nippers may be used.
- Always wear safety glasses during cutting. Dry-fit each cut piece again before applying adhesive to ensure perfect fit.
Grouting Joints Carefully
Proper grouting protects joints and completes the look.
- Allow the thin-set mortar to cure fully per manufacturer instructions (typically 24-48 hours).
- Lightly dampen the stones with a sponge before grouting to prevent them from absorbing moisture from the grout too quickly.
- Mix sanded grout to a peanut butter-like consistency.
- Using a grout float, press grout into all joints at a 45-degree angle.
- Immediately wipe excess grout from the stone face with a damp (not wet) sponge using circular motions. Rinse your sponge frequently.
- Let a haze form, then buff clean with a soft, dry cloth.
Final Sealing & Long-Term Protection
To preserve beauty in high-traffic areas, sealing is recommended.
- Apply a high-quality impregnating sealer designed for natural stone after the grout is fully cured (typically after 72 hours).
